Our driver will transport you from the airport to your camp/raid for rest. After a hearty Moroccan breakfast, we’ll load up the 4×4 and head out to explore the Moroccan desert sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. The homes of local nomadic communities, a desert oasis in the middle of nowhere, breathtaking scenery, quaint desert towns, palm groves, and much more are among the many stops in store for you. Having to stop in the Mali town of Khamlia, where the locals will entertain us with a concert of wonderful Gnawa music while we sip some delicious tea.
Before returning to the hotel, we’ll ride our dromedaries for an hour and a half through the dunes and into the heart of the desert to watch the sunset. Spend the night in a beautiful nomad tent surrounded by the Great Dune, sipping Moroccan tea and listening to the rhythm of drums.
We will travel to Rissani after breakfast. We will walk through what is known as Morocco’s most authentic and traditional souk, as well as the largest in the country’s south, where all types of handicrafts, food, and animals are traded.
After lunch, we will visit ancient ruins and architectural structures such as Sijilmassa, Ksar El Fida, Ksar Oulad Abdelhalim, and Mezguida.
We’ll leave for Agdaz after breakfast. We’ll stop in Gara Medouar, where many films have been shot, before continuing on to Nkob, the village of 45 kasbahs. It is the only village in Morocco with more than forty kasbahs. The old part of the village still has many old impressive kasbahs built in mud in front of the oasis and the Jbel (mountain) Saghro, and it is also known as the henna capital. After that, we’ll travel to Agdaz. A charming kasbah serves as lodging.
After breakfast, we’ll travel to Ksar Tamnougalt. Ksar Tamnougalt, the former capital of the Mezguita tribe, is one of the oldest ksours still in good condition in the Draa Valley. Ksar Tamnougalt, founded more than three centuries ago by a family of Cads who represented the sultan in the area, occupied a strategic position. After that, we’ll travel to Taznakht. It is a major carpet weaving center that uses wool from the sheep breeding of Siroua. For centuries, the Ouaouzguite carpet (now widely known as “Taznakht carpet”) was the tribes’ primary practice and financial resource.
On Day 5 of the 9 day Draa Tafilalet Tour, the journey will take you from Ait Ben Haddou to Ouarzazat.
Our day will begin with a trip to Ait Ben Haddou, a stunning fortified village that has served as a setting for numerous Hollywood productions and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
